Frequently asked questions
This is where we collect the questions we are more often asked about Prompt! If you have one, send it to info@prompt-schrijven.nl.
Where should I post my assignment? And do I really have to?
You can post your results either in the closed Facebook group (you’ll find the link in your ‘welcome’ email or you can search on Prompt Schrijven in the groups) or on Slack (again, the link is in your ‘welcome’ email).
You don’t have to post if you don’t want to, but it does make the whole process much more fun and more inspiring for you and the others. Plus you learn more. Don’t forget: fail is absolutely an option. Failing is good, failing is wonderful for others, failing is something you can’t otherwise allow yourself to do but here, it’s okay to fail. And anyway, what is failing? You probably see it differently to how others see it. So jump in! And see where it gets you.
Can I receive the Prompt! on a different day?
Not yet, but we’re working on it. Hopefully, you’ll soon be able to choose your own delivery date. You can of course already choose which day you work on your Prompt!
Oh dear, I haven’t finished my assignment. Is that bad?
Not at all. It’s no problem if you skip a week or two. You’re doing this because it’s fun, remember? However, it is good to make a habit of it. It needn’t take much longer than 15 minutes, but those 15 minutes are really worthwhile. And you can always catch up with earlier assignment. The channels on Slack and the Facebook hashtags will be there for a few months.
What is Slack and do I really need it?
Slack is the Prompt! home base next to and equal to our Facebook group.
Slack is a communication platform where groups can be in touch about specific topics. We use is to share the results of the assignments with each other; you can also read those of others and respond to them if you like. If you have a Prompt-plus subscription, you really do need Slack since we only provide that service there. Simply because we’re not mad about Facebook and already spend too much time on it. Give Slack a try. There is a detailed manual but in practice, everyone seems to master it easily.
How much VAT is charged on a subscription and will I receive an invoice?
There is 9% VAT on the subscriptions. On Prompt-plus that’s 21% because it’s a different kind of service.
You will receive an invoice for all our subscriptions when you pay. The email we send you contains a link to download it.
Subscriptions like these are tax-deductible for language professionals, for income tax. Als it is not possible for us to provide invoices with VAT Reverse charge you may not ask for a refund for your VAT.
Am I entitled to a reduced subscription?
You’re the only person who can and may answer that question. It’s not up to us to judge. We came up with the reduced price for everyone who is on a limited budget, can’t claim the VAT back, can’t declare the subscription as expenses anywhere…. For students and people not in paid work. If you feel you fall into one of those categories, go for it. Glad to have you with us.
Can I switch to Prompt! Schrijven?
Yes, no problem. Send us an email and we’ll put you on the other mailing list. It’s also possible to write the assignment in Dutch – once, now and then, always or in addition. The Dutch-language subscribers share their work in the same Slack workspace and the same Facebook group as the English ones.
How do I cancel my subscription?
To cancel, send an email to info@prompt-schrijven.nl stating the email address where your Prompts are sent. IMPORTANT: it’s not enough to cancel only your Mailchimp subscription. Once you’ve emailed us to cancel, we’ll do that for you. But it’s up to you to leave the closed groups on Facebook and Slack. For all subscriptions, please give us one month’s notice.
